AN ARGUMENT over R8 ended in the gruesome deaths of a Port Elizabeth mother and her four-year-old daughter who were burnt alive after their shack was deliberately torched at the weekend. A 45-year-old man has been arrested.

The charred body of Lindelwa Stemele, 40, was found on top of the body of her little girl, Mandilive, whom she had tried to shield from the raging fire which engulfed the Motherwell shack around 1am on Sunday.

The shack, which was in the backyard of a house in Machel Street, was less than 500m from the Motherwell police station. – Gareth Wilson
