AN ELDERLY Uitenhage woman, who shot dead her “monster” husband after enduring 49 years of abuse, was shown some leniency yesterday when her only punishment was to remain in custody for two minutes.

Beatrice Rudman, 71, said although she could not remember the exact details of August 21 last year, she recalled grabbing her husband’s revolver from under his bed and shooting him four times.

She pleaded guilty to a charge of murder in the Port Elizabeth Regional Court. – Kathryn Kimberley
