A MOTHER tongue debacle has left a father, 33, livid after a small- town police constable allegedly refused to open a case because the complainant did not speak Afrikaans.

Siphiwo Ntlanjeni, who lives in one of Humansdorp’s informal settlements, said yesterday he was embarrassed and almost cried after the incident at the Humansdorp police station at the weekend.

Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Gerda Swart called the allegations very serious. – Hendrick Mphande
