Blow to Mannya's bribery allegations
By TMG Editor - 16 April 2014
FORMER education boss Modidima Mannya's bribery allegation against textbook suppliers was dealt a severe blow when the East London Regional Court rejected evidence from a police trap. Magistrate Deon Rossouw ruled evidence from an entrapment inadmissible.
The state alleges three businessmen – Vishal Seebran, Sibongile Mtshixa and Peter Mkhanda – tried to bribe Mannya, wanting to be reinstated in a multimillion- rand tender process after they had been disqualified the previous year.
Mannya went into a meeting with them with a wire tap and police listened to and viewed the alleged exchange of money. - Siya Boya
