Killing of Zahara's brother a mystery

MYSTERIOUS bloodstains and information from eyewitnesses have led the East London police on a search for two people who might have been injured or killed in the shooting that left award- winning musician Zahara's brother dead on Sunday.

The Afro-pop star's younger brother Mbuyiseli "Nana" Mkutukana, 25, and his 35-year-old friend Thanduxolo Zumani were murdered on Sunday after they allegedly received a call to meet someone on the banks of the Buffalo River about 3km from Phumlani Village where they lived.

Police spokesman Lieutenant- Colonel Mtati Tana said they were allegedly killed by three gunmen who crossed the river from the Mdantsane side. Only their cellphones were missing.

Police urged community and family members who had gathered at the scene to be on the lookout for anyone who might have been injured or shot.

Zahara said yesterday: "The death of my brother is tragic ... We need the assailants to answer for the pain they have caused us." - Mamela Gowa and Asanda Nini
