TWO women were shot execution style in their home as the child of one was being held in her arms and her other two children were in a cot in the same room as the second victim.

The bodies of Nomabotwe Madlakane, 37, and her cousin, Vuyisa Sawula, 42 – each with a bullet wound to the head – were found in separate rooms of the Vavi Street home in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage, shortly after 11pm on Monday.

The discovery was made by Madlakane’s husband, Zama, 43, when he returned home after completing a late shift.

Sawula was found slouched behind one bedroom door with two children in a cot in the room, while Madlakane was found lying on her back in another bedroom with a one- year-old child in her arms on top of her.

Detectives remain baffled as to the motive for the murders as nothing was stolen during the attack. Neighbours say they heard no gunshots. – Gareth Wilson
