Battle through cancer to be a 'Dr'

NOT only did breast cancer survivor Charlotte Hendricks complete her doctor's degree in education after a long battle with her health, but she did so for the empowerment of teachers in Port Elizabeth's northern areas.

The 48-year-old foundation- phase head of department (HOD) at Alpha Primary School in Gelvandale started her post-graduate journey with six teacher friends in 2006.

At the time they all did their master's degree, and together decided to pursue doctor's degrees in education and empower teachers from the northern areas. When Hendricks was diagnosed with cancer she was determined to beat it. - Alvené du Plessis
