Cop, 58, on baby scam charges

AMIDDLE-aged Port Elizabeth policewoman who allegedly faked pregnancy to take an extended holiday at the expense of the South African Police Service (SAPS), has been charged with fraud and will stand trial later this month.

Lieutenant-Colonel Joyce Zoldwa Magongo, 58, who was based at the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court at the time, allegedly took four months off work late in 2012 and early last year after claiming she was pregnant and was entitled to receive paid maternity leave.

After pretending to be pregnant for several months, she allegedly told her bosses she had given birth in January last year, but could not provide proof.
