Applications for special votes now open

FOR the first time since the first democratic elections, applications for special votes will not be accepted at voting stations on special voting days.
Applications for special votes in this year’s national and provincial elections open today and, according to the Electoral Commission, only pre-approved voters will be able to cast a special vote. The applications are open until Thursday April 17.
Electoral Commission spokeswoman Kate Bapela said applications had to be handed in at the IEC offices between 9am and 5pm.
