Sasco under fire over Boardwalk splurge

THE Sasco-led Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Student Representative Council (SRC) will have to account on how it spent at least R150 000 of its budget on a talk shop on the same weekend it was rubbing shoulders with ANC bigwigs like Cyril Ramaphosa at the Boardwalk Convention Centre in Port Elizabeth.
This follows accusations by rival DA Students’ Organisation (Daso) that Sasco splurged R250 000 on a student parliament and policy summit held at the Boardwalk two weeks ago.
Daso’s claims are based on the SRC budget allocations – seen by The Herald – which set aside R150 000 for the policy summit, R50 000 for the student parliament and R50 000 for a gala dinner with the government.
