Uproar over who should foot bill for new uniforms

STATE-employed nurses in the Eastern Cape are seeing red over a move that should have seen them all wearing traditional white uniforms as from today.

What started out as a national initiative motivated by the Democratic Nurses’ Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) to bring dignity back to the profession has caused quite an uproar in the Eastern Cape.

Denosa confirmed yesterday it had taken the Eastern Cape Health Department to arbitration over the issue, accusing the department of applying bullying tactics when insisting that white uniforms for nurses were now the order of the day. The furore is over who should pay for the uniforms.
