Metro officials probed in bribes scandal

THE Eastern Cape Department of Local Government has swooped on the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to probe allegations of bribes in exchange for jobs and tenders by some metro officials. But a lack of cooperation by some municipal officials has made it difficult for the department to conclude the inquiry, ordered by its MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, in December. Despite the obstacles, the department’s superintendent-general, Advocate Stanley Khanyile, said on Friday officials were on the verge of concluding the investigation.
