Biker dies after being hit by taxi

A DESPATCH family awoke to the tragic news yesterday that their husband and father had been killed in an accident on his way to work.

Charles Wait, 40, was flung off his motorbike when a taxi crashed into him just a few kilometres from his workplace.

The father of two, of Muller Street, Minor Heights in Despatch, was a technician at Volkswagen SA.

Police said the taxi driver claimed the vehicle's brakes failed, causing him to collide with Wait at the Mel Brooks Avenue and Algoa Road intersection in Uitenhage shortly before 6am. - Gareth Wilson
