Double gang shooting increases tally to 10

TWO suspected gang members were shot dead in the northern areas suburb of Gelvandale yesterday.

The murders, which police say take the death toll connected to gang violence in the area to 10 over the last two weeks, occurred at about 9am . The victims were suspected members of the Upstand Dogs.

Police suspect that Handsley “Bubbles” Smit, 24, and Luciano Jaftha, 19, were shot in a revenge attack linked to a drug war.

Both Smit and Jaftha were standing in an open field between houses in Anita Drive, Gelvandale, when a single gunman fired four times. -Gareth Wilson
