Five guilty of heist killings

FIVE of six men accused of the botched liquid platinum heist which took place in Deal Party in November 2011 were yesterday convicted on a string of charges, including six counts of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Unathi Wana, 33, of Kwazakhele, Mlungisi Ntsume, 37, of New Brighton, Madoda Nube, 38, of New Brighton, Luyanda Njokweni, 37, of New Brighton, and Vukile Ngcangisa, 50, of Motherwell were convicted in the Port Elizabeth High Court after a lengthy trial.

A sixth accused, Xolani Nanto, 37, of New Brighton was convicted only of robbery and not robbery with aggravating circumstances because Judge Glen Goosen found the statement he made to police regarding his involvement made no mention of firearms or the use of violence. - Lee-Anne Butler
