Grey on ball against drugs

GREY High School will use a touch rugby tournament to reach out to young people next week in a bid to create awareness about drug abuse.

With rugby being a popular sport at the school, the tournament is sure to grab pupils' attention, as players spread the anti-drug message.

With the campaign slogan "Life is my Anti-Drug", Teenagers Against Drug Abuse (Tada) members will encourage the youngsters to get addicted to more positive daily activities like sport.

The event, which takes place on March 27, will see the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University rugby team playing an "exhibition game" at the end of the tournament against one of Grey's own teams.

Drug abuse related information and contacts of organisations that help with the problem will be distributed to participants before the start of the tournament.

About 130 players, divided into junior and senior leagues, will take part in the event.

Tada coordinator, Catherine Wilson, said the visiting sportsmen, who had chosen a positive lifestyle, would be an example to the school boys. - Chanice Koopman
