New delays in Pikoli report

IT has been a year since Nelson Mandela Bay municipal bosses received the explosive Pikoli forensic report highlighting possible spending irregularities totalling millions of rands – but the municipality has yet to act on the findings.

The money said to have been squandered was meant for the new bus system.

Pikoli’s report highlights how money was allegedly misspent on a music festival which did not take place and an events organiser. Pikoli was hired by law firm Brown Braude & Vlok in November 2012 to look specifically into alleged irregularities identified in the bus project.

Instead of recommending action, city manager Mpilo Mbambisa has advised that the report should undergo legal review before it can be adopted. – Rochelle de Kock
