Legal action looms over stadium cost

THE municipality plans to launch legal action to recoup up to R590-million from the companies involved in the construction of the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

This comes after an announcement by the South African Local Government Association (Salga) last week that the way was now clear for the municipality to institute proceedings against the construction companies.

This is as a result of the issuing of certificates by the Competition Tribunal which confirm that companies associated with a number of projects related to the stadiums built around the country for the 2010 Fifa World Cup, among other projects, had contravened the Competition Act. -
