‘I was denied top job due to age and gender’

Chabula-Nxiweni, 67, has sent a lawyer’s letter to mayor Ben Fihla and city manager Mpilo Mbambisa demanding all documents relating to the hiring of the chief operating officer so she can scrutinise them and challenge the process whereby Mzwake Clay, 47, was appointed earlier this month.

In the letter, sent on March 14 – a day after Clay was appointed by the council – her lawyer, Grant Howard, wrote that Chabula-Nxiweni had been treated appallingly. – Nwabisa Makunga
