Principal dodges scandal

FEARING that a results bungle three years ago, that saw him charged with examination fraud, could lead to his ultimate dismissal, a prominent Nelson Mandela Bay principal has opted to go on early retirement to avoid a possible "scandal" after nearly 30 years of teaching.

Sakhisizwe High School principal, Mzimkhulu Qunta, 58, said he was not leaving the education system because he wanted to, but out of fear that the professional record he had worked so hard to keep clean had been tarnished.

"I would have loved to have served my contractual term and retired at age 65 because there is still a lot I would like to do for education, but I thought it better to take early retirement than to have a chequered record because I fear this is where things are headed," he said.  -
