Police issue warning as hijacking cases soar

POLICE have issued a warning to motorists using the R334 between Uitenhage and Coega following two hijackings this month. The culprits apparently use stray animals including cattle, which they chase into the road forcing vehicles to slow down, before they pounce.

One of the victims was a woman travelling along the R334 past Motherwell when her car windows were smashed as she slowed down for animals. She was then dragged from her vehicle.

Police said the woman was tied up and assaulted until she gave the culprits, believed to be three men, the pin-numbers to her bank accounts. They fled in her car and she was found later in the bushes next to the road and taken to hospital. -
