Cape Town cuts Lumen contract

AS the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality gears up for its court battle against Lumen Technologies over the lucrative bus system contract, the City of Cape Town has cancelled its R243-million bus contract with the company due to non-performance.

Lumen, which had a seven- year contract with the Cape Town Municipality, has allegedly failed to provide software validation and licences to be able to operate the system, despite repeated requests from the city.

Its contract, signed in 2011, was for the implementation, operation and maintenance of the bus control centre and other technology for the MyCiti bus service. -
