Municipalities in turmoil

SEVERAL local municipalities in the Cacadu district are battling to get by, hamstrung by political and administrative instability, non- performance and sheer lack of financial discipline.

The Ikwezi and Makana municipalities (in Jansenville and Grahamstown respectively) are the worst performers, barely achieving 30% of their revenue collection targets.

Latest figures show that Ikwezi's revenue collection rate was at 26%.

Cacadu District Municipality mayor Khunjuzwa Kekana painted a bleak picture of municipalities that needed urgent intervention from the Eastern Cape Department of Local Government. -
