City faces R1m legal action over car rentals

A PORT Elizabeth car hire company is taking the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to court, demanding more than R1-million it says the metro owes for hiring its vehicles since 2009.

Eco Car and Van Hire filed an application in the Port Elizabeth High Court and it was on the roll to be heard yesterday. However, several outstanding invoices have to be obtained first before the matter can proceed.

The company has tried several times over the years to get the municipality to settle its outstanding bill, but the city is said to always have different excuses that either there was no proof of the orders, or that the contract had expired. - Rochelle de Kock
