John Tallant Road closed to June

John Tallant Road, a major arterial route in Nelson Mandela Bay, will be closed in both directions for general traffic from Monday, 17 March, until approximately June 2014, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality announced on Thursday (13/03/14).

"Motorists, travelling from the direction of the Port Elizabeth Central Business District in the direction of Swartkops using John Tallant are advised to continue using Burman Road, Baxter or Stephen Street and Grahamstown Road, Deal Party", it said in a statement.

Large trucks with trailers must access the N2 via Burman Road, Deal Party.

John Tallant Road carries large volumes of traffic between the N2 and the industrial suburbs of Deal Party and Perseverance, as well as serving as a major link for traffic travelling to and from Uitenhage, and construction – to accommodate the increasing traffic volume – started on 4 April 2013. Since then the road was still open for one-way traffic in an easterly direction.

According to the municipality, work is progressing well and to accelerate implementation, work adjacent to the N2 Bridge will now be carried out in a single phase and not in multiple phases as previously planned and the bridge expansion joints are to be renewed amongst others.

Spokesman Kupido Baron asked that motorists note that there will be no access for the general public from Grahamstown Road to the N2. It is anticipated that the roadway will be fully functional in both directions by the end of June.
