ACCLAIMED South African poet, author and political activist Don Mattera believes it is time for the state of Israel to do a 360° turn and change for the better.

The self-confessed born again intellectual was speaking at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, where he was part of a conversation on Israel Apartheid Week, hosted by the university and Palestine Solidarity Alliance in the Bay.

Israel Apartheid Week, which started on Monday, is an annual international series of events that seek to raise awareness of Israel’s policies against Palestinians. Mattera said he had been at the forefront since the 1970s, when he spoke for Palestine when it was not fashionable. – Thulani Gqirana
