Suspect wounded in tangle with police

A HOUSEBREAKING suspect was shot in the leg while allegedly trying to resist arrest at a petrol station in Port Elizabeth last night. He was taken to Livingstone Hospital under police guard. Police spokesman Alwin Labans said the incident happened at the Sasol petrol station in Buffelsfontein Road at about 8pm. He said police went to the petrol station after receiving a tip-off that the suspect was there. They confronted him while he sat in his car and a shot went off when he allegedly grabbed the firearm of one of the officers. The man, whose name and age could not be determined last night, will appear in the magistrate's court soon. – Riaan Marais
