Families face daily water trek

DEBORAH Helmey carries her six-month-old baby on her back, her two other children next to her as they all trek to fetch their daily allowance of water.
The 32-year-old mother, from Valentia township in Addo, carries a 25-litre bucket. The two children – both younger than eight years – push a small cart on which they transport a 5l bucket of water.
The walk to and from a water truck has been their routine for the past four months.
That is how long they have been without running water. -
