Proteas captain drops bombshell

PROTEAS captain Graeme Smith shocked the cricketing world late last night when he announced he would end his 347-match international career after the ongoing third test against Australia at Sahara Park Newlands.

Smith, 33, broke the news to his teammates after close of play in Cape Town yesterday and Cricket South Africa released a statement at 10.22pm last night.

Smith, a left-handed batsman, had been struggling for form in recent tests but his decision, and the timing thereof, will come as a shock to followers of the game.
