Councillor Tutu to strengthen finances

Rochelle de Kock

IN a move that is expected to strengthen oversight over the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's finances, chairman of the municipal public accounts committee Jimmy Tutu has been appointed as a full-time councillor.

This comes after it was promulgated into law by Eastern Cape MEC for Local Government Mlibo Qoboshiyane in January.

The Bay council approved the decision at a full council meeting on Thursday.

As a full-time councillor, Tutu will now be able to have an office with support staff to assist him in ensuring the municipality practises good governance.
