Council splurges on car rentals

NELSON Mandela Bay bosses have racked up at least R440000 in car-hire and hotel bills in the past four months.

According to invoices seen by the Herald, deputy mayor Chippa Ngcolomba is leading the pack as he has, since November, been driving around in a hired, white luxury Mercedes-Benz costing the city R45636 a month.

This is although two vehicles used by his predecessors are available for his use.

Speaker Maria Hermans and safety and security portfolio chairman Thembinkosi Mafana have also come up as some of the most frequent users of hired vehicles.
