Patrons in the pink for Cansa

IT is that time of year again when thousands go pink, green or bald in support of the fight against cancer.

The 11th annual Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) shavathon culminates at 300 shopping centres around the country tomorrow. The initiative has already visited more than 500 businesses this week.

In Port Elizabeth, the event raised about R45000 last year, but the association's fund developer in Port Elizabeth, Joan Duarte, is hoping they will raise even more this year. The shavathons will be held at Greenacres, Walmer Park and Moffett on Main shopping centres between 9am and 2pm tomorrow

Those wishing to support the initiative can either cut or dye their hair – a gesture symbolic of their support for lost loved ones and those fighting cancer – at a cost of R25 for children under 12 and R50 for adults.

All funds raised will be distributed throughout the Eastern Cape, with money going towards education and prevention schemes, Cansa care centres and other cancer fighting and awareness initiatives. – Jose Assam
