Freedom Day celebrations

THE Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will spend R5-million from the city's coffers to fund the 20 Years of Freedom celebrations.

In a council supplementary agenda, which will be discussed at a special council meeting at a date that has yet to be announced, city manager Mpilo Mbambisa proposed the following budget cuts to fund the commemorations:

  • Human Settlements – R291780;
  • Economic Development, Tourism and Agriculture – R133190;
  • Recreation and Culture – R172110;
  • Corporate Services – R316320;
  • Roads and Stormwater – R128240;
  • Water Services – R432570;
  • Sanitation Services – R338470;
  • Electricity and Energy – R1.6-million;
  • Municipal Manager's office – R28060;
  • Chief Operating Officer's office – R33510;
  • Safety and Security – R300560;
  • Infrastructure and engineering – R217260; and
