Airport name change plan gathers steam

THE Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is moving ahead with plans to have the Port Elizabeth Airport renamed after one of the slain Pebco Three members, Sipho Hashe, who was abducted at the airport in 1985 by apartheid-era security police.

At a council meeting yesterday, deputy mayor Chippa Ngcolomba said mayor Ben Fihla had forwarded the request to the Eastern Cape provincial government for consideration.

“It’s receiving the attention from province and the family has agreed to it. The necessary processes will unfold,” Ngcolomba said. – Rochelle de Kock
