Students launch schools newspaper app mission

FIVE students are hoping to revive school newspapers using mobile technology. They started working on a special application in December to make it easier for schools to have their own newspapers.

Now the team, all from NMMU, are ready to show off their product to 20 schools.

The brains are Grant Eastwood, 22, who was the back-end developer, project manager Cornelius Greyling, 19, front-end developer PJ Fernandes, 23, marketing and sales consultant Rhys Botes, 19, and development consultant Martin Stolk, 20.

Greyling said the app, called School Times, had been developed after they had seen how hard it was for schools to get newspapers going. "I had done an internship at a newspaper, and was also part of a magazine when I was in high school," he said.
