PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma is willing to see his government consider the legalisation of dagga for medical purposes.

Speaking in the National Assembly yesterday, Zuma said he was personally touched by IFP MP Mario Ambrosini's plea for his government to legalise dagga as a cancer treatment.

Zuma said he had instructed Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi to look into Ambrosini's request.

"We have noted the appeal of the honourable Ambrosini about the decriminalising of marijuana for medical uses," Zuma said. "I was touched to see the man I have known and worked with for more than 20 years. I have asked the minister of health to look into this matter."
