More men sign up to nurse

VUYISILE Skarfu has dreamt for years of becoming the next Florence Nightingale and now, thanks to the changing face of nursing at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU),he may just be on track to do so.
While the profession has, for years, been dominated by women, the university this year has a record number of male students forming part of its practical modules.
Nursing science department lecturer Dr Herman Willemse said he had a class of 112 students this year, with 33% of them males.
