Witness tells of platinum heist accused's arrest

AN employee at a business in Deal Party where a brazen liquid platinum heist was attempted in November 2011 told the Port Elizabeth High Court yesterday how one of the seven accused was arrested.

Frederick Lottering, 40, who at the time worked as a receiving supervisor at Supply Chain Services in Stephenson Road, said he alerted police officers at the scene when he noticed one man acting peculiarly and trying to hide behind a parked Toyota Venture outside the business. The man was later arrested.

Seven men – Unathi Wana, 33, of Kwazakhele; Mlungisi Ntsume, 37, of New Brighton; Lonwabo Neti, 28, of KwaDwesi; Madoda Nube, 38, of New Brighton; Luyanda Njokweni, 37, of New Brighton; Xolani Nanto, 37, of New Brighton and Vukile Ngcangisa, 50, of Motherwell – are charged with murder, theft, robbery and possession of firearms and ammunition.The men are alleged to belong to the gang which orchestrated an attack on the security vehicle transporting millions of rands' worth of liquid platinum.
