Numsa warns Cosatu it is ignoring rules

NUMSA general secretary Irvin Jim has called Cosatu's bluff, saying the preliminary decision taken by its leadership to suspend or expel the union from the federation was ignorant and unconstitutional.

In a strongly worded 21-page letter to Cosatu's deputy general secretary, Bheki Ntshalintshali, last night, Jim said the central executive committee (CEC) which flexed its muscle last Tuesday threatening to oust the National Union of Metalworkers of SA, had no power to do so.

Jim's letter, which The Herald has seen, is the latest in a war of words between Cosatu and its biggest affiliate Numsa, which has escalated in recent months, threatening to tear the ANC-led alliance apart.
