ADCOCKVALE residents in Port Elizabeth will have to fork out thousands of rands to replace electrical appliances damaged after a power failure in the area at the weekend.

The power failure followed a loud bang at a substation, and residents said they saw smoke coming out of their appliances. When the power came back on about six hours later, some of the appliances were no longer working.

Florence Fraser said her brand new touch-screen hob and several other appliances were destroyed.
