'How can we put our sister's death behind us if no one is punished?'

A PORT Elizabeth family was robbed of closure yesterday when a VW employee was acquitted of culpable homicide, due to a weak state case, almost two years after his car ploughed into the Swartkops River channel causing the death of their sister.

What really happened in the early hours of that morning will now never be revealed, as Patrick Dix-Peek's early discharge, due to insufficient evidence and a lack of witnesses, prevented him from taking the stand.

"I feel upset and helpless. We were under the impression the state had a solid case against the man, now we hear he is walking away a free man. What happened?" said an angry Altoinette Dorfling, 37, the younger sister of crash victim Lynette Hammond, 42.
