Court hears of platinum heist chaos

THE Port Elizabeth High Court yesterday heard how an innocent passenger was seriously injured during a botched liquid platinum heist in which six people were killed in Deal Party in 2011.

Tendayi Zhakata, 29, a truck driver, said he was still battling with the injury after being shot during the botched robbery on November 8 2011, which was stopped by undercover police officers who had information regarding the plan.

Seven men – Unathi Wana, 33, of Kwazakhele; Mlungisi Ntsume, 37, of New Brighton; Lonwabo Neti, 28, of KwaDwesi; Madoda Nube, 38, of New Brighton; Luyanda Njokweni, 37, of New Brighton; Xolani Nanto, 37, of New Brighton and Vukile Ngcangisa, 50, of Motherwell – face a string of charges including murder, theft, robbery and possession of firearms and ammunition. They have all pleaded not guilty.
