Strikes cause Book Week organisers to ditch Bay

ORGANISERS of the National Book Week have decided against hosting the event in Nelson Mandela Bay again, after striking municipal workers disrupted the event last year.

This is another blow to the Bay's Red Location Museum, which has been closed for about four months because residents in the area are demanding houses promised to them by the municipality many years ago.

At a sports, recreation, arts and culture portfolio committee meeting on Friday, acting director Charmaine Williams said organisers of the Book Week did not want a repeat of last year's fiasco and had decided to hold the event elsewhere.
