Fiery protest ends in meeting pledge

FED-UP residents in Kwazakhele have taken to the streets again, protesting and burning tyres because they say they are tired of empty promises.

About 100 residents of the Silvertown neighbourhood gathered in Daku Road last night demanding a meeting with their councillor and shouting that they had been living in shacks for 26 years.

The protesters said they would not vote in the May general election as there had been hardly any change in their communities. Lindelwa Mamana said their councillor, Masande Mantla, had promised them the world when he campaigned and had not delivered.
