A-Team suspects held in Central

THREE suspected members of Port Elizabeth's notorious A-Team were arrested in Central yesterday after being spotted by sharp-eyed policemen.

Two of the three are believed to be the same suspects who were released on bail after appearing in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court just two weeks ago, even though police had asked that state prosecutors oppose bail.

It is believed the two supplied false names to police at the time of their initial arrest. Police spokeswoman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the three – a man and two women – were arrested in Rink Street, Central, after police spotted them in a taxi cab.

"Mount Road police were also looking for these suspects as they were caught on camera stealing a laptop out of a shop in Cape Road, Newton Park, on Wednesday. Earlier in the week, the same group is believed to have stolen expensive cellphones from another shop in Pickering Street."

The three are expected to appear in court on charges of theft on Monday.
