Speed cameras get the 'middle finger'

NELSON Mandela Bay traffic officers are fed up with the lack of successful traffic prosecutions.

Accusing tow-truck drivers of blatantly breaking speeding limits, the officers showed The Herald camera images of tow trucks, as well as motorcyclists, giving speed cameras the "middle finger" as they roar through the camera trap area.

"It's not fair. We try so hard and yet these guys are getting away breaking the law. There are a significant number of larger trucks branded by the same tow-truck businesses which also break the law.

"They have no financial reason to speed and have also racked up a number of penalties," said one of the traffic officers, who asked not to be named for fear of repercussions.
