People will revolt against police, warns Malema

Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema said people will revolt if police continued to shoot at them, The Star reported on Tuesday (04/02/2014).

"People will rise against the police if they are not aware that the sooner they change their attitude, the better," he told a crowd in Relela, outside Tzaneen in Limpopo on Monday, according to the newspaper.

"Because the more they continue to shoot an innocent soul, the more they are evoking the fighting spirit of our people."

Police allegedly killed three protesters in the area last week.

The protests were initially sparked after a 20-year-old woman was found murdered and mutilated in Mandlakazi, near Letsitele, on January 24.

Kgomotso Ragolane's right hand had been cut off and her cellphone and house keys placed inside her stomach, which had been cut open.

Two people were taken in for questioning but later released. Residents burnt their houses down on January 25.

Malema reportedly offered the families of the three protesters free legal assistance to sue the government.

"We will not disappear. We will be with you [the people] until justice is served," he said. - Sapa
