Ramaphosa applauds wild game industry

The game breeding industry must be applauded for its efforts at transformation, Stud Game Breeders' spokesman Cyril Ramaphosa said on Thursday (23/01/2014).

"Transformation in the industry has to be applauded, the industry cannot remain white. It has to respond to the changes in the country," Ramaphosa said at the Tshwane University of Technology.

He said the game industry had empowered the previously disadvantaged.

Ramaphosa was at the university awarding bursaries worth R280,000 to eight students studying game ranch management, to pay for their tuition and accommodation, on behalf of Stud Game Breeders.

"In order to move the country forward every industry has to transform," he said.

Ramaphosa was pleased that education institutions had responded to the growth in the game industry and were offering courses to students.

"This industry is growing in leaps and bounds. We have the best management of wildlife in the world," Ramaphosa said.

He said part of transformation was ensuring that employees felt part of a growing industry.

"We want people in the industry to be properly skilled. We want to find ways for those who work to find growth in the enterprises they work in," Ramaphosa said. - Sapa
