Top award for hospital manager

CANDICE BRADFIELD

PORT Alfred Hospital's acting nursing services manager has been named Netcare's Top Student of the Year.

Marianne Stiglingh received the award at a ceremony at the Feather Market Hall in Port Elizabeth last week where Netcare students from all over the Eastern Cape were in attendance.

Stiglingh passed her year-long shift leader management development programme with honours. She tied for top position with another student.

"It's wonderful what Netcare does to develop staff from all categories. I am very proud to be working for them,” she said.

This is the first course that she has done through Netcare Training Academy. Her previous training was through The University of the Free State and University of Pretoria as well as the University of South Africa (UNISA).

Netcare selects different staff to attend lectures which are given in Port Elizabeth. This takes place continuously throughout the year, giving staff the opportunity to do in-service certificates as well as completing other courses.

Stiglingh has been working at Port Alfred Hospital since February 2009 as unit manager. In January last year she was appointed as acting nursing service manager as well. This means that she is responsible for the nursing staff as well as the staff in the accident and emergency section, half of whom work for the department of health and the other half for Netcare.

Before she moved to Port Alfred, Stiglingh worked for Netcare at Unitas hospital in Centurion, Pretoria. There she worked as a sister in the Intensive Care Unit for over five years.
