WINDY conditions and 18ºC water temperature greeted swimmers for the second weekend in a row at Marina Martinique in Jeffreys Bay.


The 2012/13 Secbands EPA Swim Challenge Series kicked off with master swimmer Kevin Grey the only athlete to take on the 10 km.


Rebecca Newman got off to a good start by swimming the 7.5 km in a time of 1:52:04.
Reegan Tait from Pinetown was the first male home in the 5 km, with Tammy Geyer from Port Elizabeth the first woman to finish.


JC van Wyk from Jeffreys Bay was the first non wetsuit master swimmer to finish, followed by fellow JBay swimmer, Brenton Williams. Reegan Tait won the 3km with Jeffreys Bay’s Caro de Jager winning the women’s race.


PJ Duffy was the first master swimmer in 43:51, a SA qualifying time, followed by Richden Jute. Denise Bosman was the first woman veteran to finish, with Angela Finlay second. Bosman also recorded a national qualifying time in the 3km.
